Shopping for a 200-260 hp tractor? How John Deere’s 2027 6R and Massey Ferguson’s 7S Mark 2 compare
Deere's 2027 6R adds an e19 powershift and models from 180 to 260 hp; Massey's CVT-only 7S Mark 2 reaches U.S. buyers by 2028. A sourced spec comparison.

Key takeaways
- Two redesigned tractor lines are coming to the 200-to-260-hp class: John Deere’s model-year 2027 6R and Massey Ferguson’s MF 7S Mark 2.
- Deere is adding six large-frame 6R models from 180 to 260 hp plus a new e19 powershift. Massey’s North American 7S Mark 2 comes in four models from 200 to 245 hp, all with a Dyna-VT CVT.
- Timing differs: Massey plans its North American launch at Commodity Classic in March 2027, with deliveries expected by spring 2028, according to Tractor Tuesday.
- This is a sourced spec summary from manufacturer and trade-press materials, not a hands-on test.
If a 200-plus-horsepower utility or row-crop tractor is on your 2027 or 2028 list, two of the biggest brands have just redrawn the class. John Deere is rolling out a redesigned model-year 2027 6R Series, and Massey Ferguson has announced the MF 7S Mark 2. Massey will show the 7S Mark 2 to European buyers at the EIMA show in Bologna, Italy, this month.
US Farm News has not driven either tractor. Below is what each company and the trade press have reported, side by side, plus the questions worth asking a dealer before you trade.
Horsepower and lineup
- John Deere 6R (MY2027): Deere is adding six new 6R models from 180 to 260 hp, Anne Anderson, the company’s 6 Series marketing manager, told AgriNews at the Farm Progress Show. She said that is 10 hp more than Deere has offered in this size before. Across all frame sizes, the 2027 6R family has 15 models on four frames, Farm Progress reported. In Europe, the flagship 6R 260 reaches 305 hp with Intelligent Power Management, according to Farmers Guardian. Check U.S. ratings with your dealer.
- Massey Ferguson 7S Mark 2: The global series has six models from 170 to 245 hp. North America gets four, the 7S.200, 7S.215, 7S.230 and 7S.245, according to Ag Proud. Tractor Tuesday reported that Massey plans to drop some overlapping models from its current North American 7S and 8S lines as the Mark 2 arrives.
Engine and transmission
This is where the two lines differ most.
- Massey uses AGCO Power’s CORE75, a 7.5-liter six-cylinder, in every 7S Mark 2. Massey Ferguson says the engine has 25% fewer parts than earlier designs and meets emissions rules without exhaust gas recirculation, and that torque stays flat from 800 to 1,500 rpm. Every model gets the Dyna-VT continuously variable transmission. In North America it is rated for 35-mph transport, according to Ag Proud.
- Deere is adding the e19, a new powershift for the 2027 6R. Anderson told AgriNews it can run in manual mode or in an automatic mode that shifts up and down on its own. Farmers Guardian reported that the e19 uses dual-clutch technology and is offered alongside Deere’s AutoPowr CVT, not in place of it.
For buyers, that is a real choice. Deere will offer a powershift or a CVT in this class. Massey’s 7S Mark 2 is CVT only.
Hydraulics, hitch and chassis
- Massey 7S Mark 2 (North American specs, per Ag Proud): up to 50 gpm of hydraulic flow, up to five electric rear valves and up to six front valves, 21,164 pounds of rear lift, a 116.1-inch wheelbase and a 17.4-foot turning radius. Separate transmission and hydraulic reservoirs let operators export up to 25 gallons of oil to implements.
- Deere 6R (MY2027): Farm Progress reported a high-capacity closed-center hydraulic system and a new loader that can sense its load and its position, with cameras available as an option. Deere has not published comparable U.S. flow and lift figures in the sources we reviewed, so ask for the spec sheet.
Cab and technology
- Deere: The 2027 6R has a new, roomier cab with better visibility, a refrigerator and a seat with 18 more degrees of swivel, Anderson told AgriNews. Controls move to the CommandArm with a CommandX drive lever. Farmers Guardian reported the European cab is rated at 66 dB(A) and that tractors leave the factory with a StarFire 7500 receiver, G5 display and JDLink modem, with features unlocked by software license.
- Massey: The cab uses Massey’s Protect-U design, which separates the cab from the engine to cut noise, heat and vibration. It gets a new 12-inch Datatronic 6 touchscreen and optional Category 4 filtration, according to Massey Ferguson and Ag Proud. Massey says the 7S Mark 2 is its first tractor with PTx FarmENGAGE farm-management software installed at the factory.
When you can actually buy one
Deere has described the 6R updates as model-year 2027. Massey’s timeline is longer for U.S. buyers. Full production and first deliveries begin in spring 2027 for the global series, Massey Ferguson said, but the North American launch is planned for Commodity Classic in March 2027. Ordering should open around then, with tractors expected to reach U.S. customers by spring 2028, Tractor Tuesday reported.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Which U.S. models offer the e19, and which come only with a CVT? What is the price difference?
- What are the rated and boosted horsepower figures for the North American version, not the European one?
- Which precision features are included, and which need an annual license or subscription?
- If you are waiting on the 7S Mark 2, what happens to trade-in values and dealer support for the current 7S and 8S models it replaces?
- Does your current loader, three-point implement and hydraulic setup match the new tractor?
